While recreational marijuana is legal in Colorado and wonderfully accessible to adults over 21, there are advantages and allowances for medical marijuna patients. No 10% state marijuanna tax, access to higher potency edibles, the ability to purchase larger quantities and the opportunity to shop at The Chronic Factory and enjoy exceptional quality and variety of products.

Qualifying for a Colorado medical card isn’t overly expensive or difficult. You can handle the application process completely online and get confirmation or denial in one to three business days. To be eligible, you must be a legal state resident, over the age of 18 and have one of the qualifying medical conditions. Minor’s with a qualifying condition and a caregiver who is a legal state resident are also eligible. Medical conditions granted by Colorado’s marijuana laws include:

  • Cachexia
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV or AIDS
  • Persistent muscle spasms
  • Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Seizures
  • Severe nausea
  • Severe pain

Mail-in applications are still available, with the process requiring six to eight weeks. The modern online application system allows payment through your credit or debit card. Start by creating an account. Visit the state’s medical marijuana patient application site, select “new user” and enter your patient information. After receiving an email that includes your username and temporary password, log into the portal and feel free to personalize your password.

The most challenging aspect of the medical marijuana card application is getting a physician certification. It is a stamp of approval provided by a registered physician certifying that you have a qualifying medical condition that can be treated by medical marijuana. A Google search for medical marijuana evaluations in the Denver area will supply a list of local providers. There can be lengthy wait times without a scheduled appointment. Your physician is responsible for uploading the certification online. However, we suggest asking for a printed copy for your records.

Now you’re ready to log back into the medical marijuana application portal. Click the “physician certification” tab. Choose “new” and select your physician certification in the dropdown menu. Click “save”. During the application process, you will be asked to choose whether you plan to grow your own marijuana, allow a caretaker to grow for you or buy from a dispensary.
